soooo time to place my oscars bets!!

i didn't see many movies last year, but how much do you wanna bet that i'm thinking of ending things is gonna get nominated, and people will get pissy, and then it will win something random nobody else cares about like best background extra, and then people will get even more pissy? anyways buckley for best lead actress

does the vast of night count as being released last year? if so, i'd like to see it get at least a nod. it was nice to see a plot like that played straight, and for such a shoestring budget, the production quality was incredible. i legitimately didn't know that it was an indie film.

mulan will also win something and people will also get pissy and i will be one of those people because i fucking hate The Mouse. never forget fbi sword

onward's def. gonna be on the slate for best animated feature, but maybe soul will, too? i haven't seen any of soul and i didn't finish onward, but they both look like alright enough movies. i'm still mad ian looks like antikarkat :/ haven't seen wolfwalkers, but if it's eligible, i want it to win lol

didn't see tenet. don't care. it's gonna win something. still won't care.

how we lookin on feels good man? my personal documentary pick.

da 5 bloods is probably gonna get something but i still need to watch it

ok that's really all my hot takes, i had to google "movies released in 2020" because i haven't been able to leave the house and watch most of them

i want to serve j.k. rowling's head on a silver platter but can we all agree she kinda went off with newt scamander. i can't speak for crimes of grindelwald but in the first film he was a really good and interesting protag all-around. for coming from an author who's clearly having some Gender Moments, he's not very traditionally masculine for a big-budget hollywood flick - he's introverted, caring, and solves problems with words instead of violence. obviously some of that comes from redmayne's great performance (critics were SO harsh on him for no reason) and others on the crew, but rowling is credited as the sole screenplay writer. like idk i think that we're used to that kind of male protag in animation but not necessarily live action, so it's nice to see. i haven't seen the movie since i was in 7th grade, i just wanted to say this. pop culture detective said it better.
